Website Ideas for Virgin Site Owners

The website is your online business card. Gone are the days when your mere weapon of choice during networking opportunities is just your business card because as soon as you hand these cards to people, they refer to your website to find out more—and you can immediately lose out if do not have one.

Still, the existence of a website is not the endpoint of things. Existing in the web entails so many things, so a perfect plan needs to be set out for everything else to translate to a positive business outcome.

The following are some of the things you need to consider when building a website:

  1. Make it simple. The simplicity of the website refers to a lot of things. You want a website that is easy to read, easy to access, easy navigate through. One does not have to be a rocket scientist to go through your website. It should be straightforward so that you do not lose readers, who have completely lost patience on your website and it should be devoid of clutter so that it is easy on the eyes.
  2. Make it cohesive. In business, consistency and cohesiveness are two very important things. Branding and image setting is important and the message you wish to convey is supposed to translate on your business name and your web design. If you want to portray an air of sophistication, then your website should look elegant and sophisticated; if you wish to portray a contemporary and modern vibe, then your website should be a reflection of this image. You cannot confuse your clients/readers. Your message needs to be consistent and cohesive at all times.
  3. Make it functional. A website should be designed and written to satisfy the needs of the business. To render a website completely functional, it should provide all the necessary information about the company (company history, mission, contact details, etc) and should support extra functions if necessary (online shopping, appointment setting, customer support, file upload/download, etc).

Always put yourself on the side of the reader when you are building a website and ask yourself what it is that you would like to see in a site. Your website should be user-friendly, so that you call more people in and not turn more people away. If you succeed in this, you will be able to embrace the true benefits of maintaining a website.
